Planning for the Olympics
We recognise that the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games which will take place in London during July, August and September 2012, will bring a number of challenges for customers located near to a games venue or a travel hotspot.
We have formed an Olympics Planning Project Team made up of senior managers across Robert Horne Group, Howard Smith Paper Group and PaperCo, as well as The Delivery Co that serves customers across all PaperlinX companies. This team is currently working on a full and comprehensive operational contingency plan and customer engagement campaign.

Overview
In October 2005, the Howard Smith Paper Group, M6 Papers, the Robert Horne Group and the Paper Company, jointly announced their intention to consolidate their individual logistics organisations into a new, single and dedicated service organisation to be called The DeliveryCo.
The combination of their being all members of the Paperlinx Group, and the critical mass of their combined logistics resources, presented a unique opportunity to develop an integrated and sustainable logistics structure capable of delivering significant commercial and environmental benefits whilst continuing to support the individual needs of the separate operating companies.
Scale
The DeliveryCo will:
• Deliver more than 500,000 tonnes per year
• Complete more than 1,250,000 deliveries per year
• Travel more than 25,000,000 kilometres per year
• Employ more than 1000 people
• Manage a fleet of nearly 500 commercial vehicles
• Operate from a network of 50 sites in the UK and Ireland
• Occupy more than 1,500,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space
Timing
The process of consolidating the delivery operations into the new organisation will be phased on a regional basis starting late 2006. It is envisaged to take at least three years to complete.
Benefits
The independent development of logistics infrastructure by the four merchants had inevitably resulted in duplication and under-utilisation of resources.
Rationalisation of the consolidated operation will improve efficiency and offset steeply rising logistics costs.
Customers will benefit from a more efficient delivery service with no loss of buying choice.
Operational efficiencies will also provide environmental benefits with reductions in energy consumption, carbon emissions, congestion and infrastructure wear and tear.
